Powerbook is coming home

Well, the powerbook is on its way via UPS as I type. As far as I can make out, they replaced the mainboard and the keyboard. Not sure why the keyboard had to be replaced, but these things happen i guess!? So it looks like my data is safe after all. Phew!

FAStT Training

Just got back from IBM FAStT training. Interesting stuff, at least I can put down "SAN Technology" and SANavigator on my CV now. A few things broke, as they always do when I go on courses, but apart from that a good time was had by all. I just love the way that IBM sees the FAStT as a low end SAN solution, whereas the SHARK is enterprise. Of course it is, with two pSeries boxes and a load of disks! Stupid money.

Bye bye poor powerbook

Well, my powerbook was picked up by UPS today and with the letter I put in with the machine, hopefully Apple will not wipe the drive. Shit, there is so much data on there that was a) lost when I lost the disk in my server and b) will be lost if Apple Support blows it away to resolve any issues. Hopefully they are smart and will realise that wiping a drive will not recover ROM.

Ah well!!!

Shit

Well, I managed to wipe out the OpenFirmware on my powerbook today, which I am very happy about. Got the SLES ppc version of SuSE, and tried to load up the chrp version of yaboot (I think that was my mistake). I then got an error code back, and thought nothing of it. I realised that I had used the wrong yaboot. So, I rebooted and now the bloody thing will not boot up. I cannot even get into OF. Resetting the NVRAM, the PM etc will not work. And to top it all off I cannot put the damned thing into target mode to get my data off the disk. So now I entrust my Powerbook to Apple support in the hope that they will not wipe out my disk. MAKE BACKUPS!!!!
