Can't Sleep

Dunno whether it is the jet-lag from St Lucia or what, but I have not been able to sleep at all tonight. It is 4:30am and I am still not tired. Even by St Lucia time, it is 0:30, so I should be tired.

Just author reviewed 2 chapters of the book, and I am not amazingly happy with the use of the English language in both the AR author and my writings, but I tried to correct as many as I could.

On other news, we had good news that Norther Rock will give us the money we need to the mortgage and more if needed (don't ya just love Credit Scoring!). Now I have to make a decision about fixed rate terms, Interest or capital repayments etc. Which will take place next week. Survey is taking place next week too, so we are rolling I *think*.

Offer on a house

Aimee and I decided to take a look at some houses this morning just for shitz and giggles, and we found a great flat overlooking Hampstead Heath on the third attempt. We actually made an offer that has been accepted, so we are trying to arrange a mortgage which is quite difficult seeing as we have maxed out our credit cards for the wedding. Hopefully it will not adversely affect our chance to get a mortgage!!! Fingers crossed.

I know how you feel now James, this is playing havoc on my nerves, but seeing as Aimee did the wedding, I am handling the house buying stuff.

Back from honeymoon

Well we got back from St Lucia yesterday and we had an amazing time. Even though the weather forcast said it would rain all week, we only had one bad day. All the other days it was at least 34 'C. We experienced the arse end of the storms that hit the east coast of the US which was a pretty bad thunder storm.

We went snorkling and Aimee managed to get stung by an sea urchin which was not nice! Photos soon!

I am now a married man

The wedding went amazingly well on Saturday and everyone said it was the best wedding they had ever been to. Apart from my embarrassing dancing to "Don't stop me now" (Queen), I was so happy all day. Aimee looked beautiful and I am happy to say she is now my wife. Hurrah!

Some photos are here from steve, cheers mate!

Calling all RHCE people

If there are any RHCE certified people in the UK out there who are looking for contract work, drop me a line as I may have something you would be interested in. The salary will be very good! And it is a long contract.

This is not open to anyone who is not a British Citizen and non-RHCE people, so do not expect an answer from me if you do not fulfill either of those requirements.

Woohoo!

Well that is it! The SLOX chapter is currently uploading as I write this. That is my last chapter for the book submitted!

I can't quite believe 30 chapters have been written about all manner of SUSE things.

Now I have to to look forward to what the Technical Editors (thanks Wido, Jono, Pete, Henne and LenZ) to see how much they have slated our work :o)

Shit

Well, with the lovely weather we have been having in London, the extended flat roof my landlord has on the flat started to leak. And I don't just mean a few drops, it was as if someone had turned a tap on.

The only big problem with this is that it was leaking straight into my gas boiler!

So I have had to turn it off and now have no hot water or heating. The landlord's wife turned round and said, "Well wait for it to dry off and turn it back on again". Not sure she is understanding the seriousness of the problem here!

Any component that is damp or damaged because of the rain water will not work again. And the last thing I need is for a little electrical fire because of a short to start in a GAS FUCKING CENTRAL HEATER!

This is not what I need. We are getting married on Saturday and we have no hot water!!!!

Sweet Jesus christ all mighty!

Just looking at how to do logging to a specific file for apache and virtual domains and I came across this . I do not feel very well now. Maybe we should introduce her to some GNU people! They would get on like a house on fire I think.

SLOX chapter

Just hammering out the SLOX chapter before I go and get hitched. I am starting to get seriously annoyed with the utter slowness of VirtualPC on the mac. Running SLOX on it brings me to tears. I have been waiting for 10 minutes for the damned thing to reboot.

This I *think* is my last chapter on the book before AR takes place (see previous post on the need for TE's). As I am on honeymoon, I will not be able to do AR for the next two weeks, so Debra has brought on another author to do it in my absence. A bit of a shame as it means less money for Roger and I, but that is secondary to the book actually being published.

I am very impressed with Roger and my ability to knock out 30 chapters totally 750 pages in such a short amount of time, and I think this is why AR is going to take a while as some things were rushed.

Technical Editors needed

Ever felt the need to flame and bitch at a Linux author[s] ? Well now is your chance. As Henne is on holiday, we need people to read some of our chapters and slate the hell out of them to go through to author review. If you do this, you will get a lovely mention in the book as a technical author and go down in history as providing important feedback to one of the greatest Linux books in history (ok, a sligh exaggeration there, but you get the idea!).

The chapters we need to be TE'd are:

16 Web Server (Apache)
18 Samba
22 Running an FTP Server
23 Firewalls
26 Enterprise Architecture
30 SUSE Linux OpenExchange Server
20 DNS Servers
24 LDAP Servers
25 Squid

Drop me a line here if you want to help.

Stereotypical Roger

Love this photo of Roger. Whenever he gets excited about something, he always does this gesture with his hand. Bless ya!

Great!

Well, I just read up on the stuff Roger was talking about, and it is bloody eerie indeed. Too many coincidences there I think. One other thing about the cybersol thing Rog, look at the contact details in the UK and Saudi, neither of the contact details refer to the cybersol domain, but to other "ISP" or "free" mail hosters. For someone that owned a web company, how difficult should it be for them to host their own mail ?

Unbloody-belieavable!

Just replied to James' comment about Master and Commander regarding the Americanisms in film, and I commented on the pap that was U571's version of the British retrieving the Enigma machine from a U-Boat. (If you haven't seen it, apparently it was a US sub and crew that got their hands on it!?). Anyway, just as I replied, an advert for, you guessed it U-571 came on TV. It will be on BBC 1 soon. Watch it if you want your blood to boil!
